This conclusion can be drawn from the Global Survey of Repair Caf\u00e9s. Repair Caf\u00e9 International Foundation carried this survey out together with the University of Manchester and the University for the Creative Arts in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>295 Repair Caf\u00e9s participated in survey<\/strong><br \/>\nA total of 295 Repair Caf\u00e9s in fourteen countries took the time to answer the questions in the survey. These questions covered all kinds of aspects of the Repair Caf\u00e9: organisational issues, kinds and numbers of products brought in for repair, specific goals of individual Repair Caf\u00e9s and many other aspects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dolls\u2019 hospitals and student volunteers<\/strong><br \/>\nAttracting younger visitors and younger repair volunteers are the most frequently mentioned issues that Repair Caf\u00e9s experience difficulties with (see chart below, page 23 in the survey report). At the same time, the survey shows that a lot is already being done to achieve these goals. Among specific activities mentioned by the respondents are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bicycle light repair events<\/li>\n<li>Having a tinker station where kids are encouraged to get hands-on with tools, take things apart ect.<\/li>\n<li>Working together with a community youth project or inviting school classes<\/li>\n<li>Organizing toy repair workshops and dolls\u2019 hospitals<\/li>\n<li>Recruiting student volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1749 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3-1024x812.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"812\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1749 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3-1024x812.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"812\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3-1024x812.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3-300x238.png 300w, https:\/\/www.repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3-768x609.png 768w, https:\/\/www.repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3-1536x1218.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.repaircafe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Schermafbeelding-2020-03-05-om-15.24.56-3.png 1672w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lobby for better product design<\/strong><br \/>\nAsked about the future, the second most important development that Repair Caf\u00e9s identify is to build a stronger involvement in campaigns for improved reparability and product longevity. Here, the volunteers also see an important role for Repair Caf\u00e9 International Foundation. The most popular future role for the Foundation, according to the respondents, would be to lobby for policies that encourage better product design, and to enter in conversation with companies about this topic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Being part of something bigger<\/strong><br \/>\nIn their report, the researchers try to find out what kind of community the Repair Caf\u00e9 community is. They write: \u201cThe one thing that makes the Repair Caf\u00e9 community special is that on the one hand it seems to be a relatively loose collection of locally-oriented community initiatives.
